Welcome

On a chilly December night, Dr. Diana Duprey – abortion clinic director, wife of a Colorado DA, and mother to a 19-year-old college freshman – is found brutally murdered in her lap pool, and the terrifying, politically charged hunt for her killer reveals a hornet’s nest of dark secrets.

Critical acclaim…

Do you remember the excitement you felt when you read Presumed Innocent and discovered Scott Turow? I felt exactly that way as I read The Abortionist’s Daughter. I savored every moment of this smart and powerful thriller.

—Chris Bohjalian, author of Midwives and Before You Know Kindness

What works best in this novel is not the issue of abortion (duly presented and dissected from both sides) nor the revelation of the murderer but the family backstories, which reveal Hyde at her best.

—Anita Shreve, The Washington Post

Author’s note

July 1, 2007

Greetings!

I’m just back from my book tour to promote the publication of The Abortionist’s Daughter in paperback (Vintage).  And I truly thank my hosts and everyone who came to my readings, whether at H.W. Schwartz in Mequon/Milwaukee, Borders in Ann Arbor, Third Place Books and Elliott Bay in Seattle, or Changing Hands in Tempe.   I have to say, I had some very tough competition in Seattle, it being solstice and all, so I’m especially grateful to you northwesterners who gave up a few hours of sunlight for me.  But a huge thanks to all of you, basically, wherever you are, for lending me your time, and helping to spread the word about this book.

One nice thing – The Abortionist’s Daughter made Entertainment Weekly’s Must List in their June 22 issue - Number 3, in fact, of the 10 Things We Love This Week.   Borders has chosen it as one of their July selections, and you can usually find it on their 3-for-2 table.  What a deal!  I hope you’ll see this book as a great selection for your book group, with the social and psychological questions it raises; please refer to my Reader’s Guide if you want some prompts.  And remember – I love to visit book groups, so if you’re in the Denver area, contact me if you’d like to have me as your guest.

Cheers,

Signature
